The pandemic has been a major challenge for us this year, and the Mount Baker-Lakewood Soccer Club board has made the tough decision to cancel our fall season. We reached this conclusion because we felt that the multiple uncertainties about our ability to provide a safe, equitable soccer program in the current circumstances - low registration numbers, no guarantee about when King County will reach Phase 3 of the public health guidelines that will allow reasonable practices and games, and reservations about how to mitigate/manage Covid-19 exposure risks to our players and volunteers - outweighed our deep desire to provide a normal soccer program for our children this fall.
The Seattle Youth Soccer Association (SYSA) is still hoping to run a short program starting in late September for some U10-U19 teams. SYSA is also planning a back-up option: a series of skills training clinics starting in late September or early October for U10-U19 players that want to participate. We think that the skills training program is realistic, and we will be working with SYSA to help organize and deliver that program in our neighborhood. We also hope to extend it to our U6-U9 players as well. We will contact all players who registered for the fall season as soon as we have plans for the skill training program.
It is hard to convey this bad news amid all the other challenges that we’re all facing right now. But we are hopeful that by keeping our players and volunteer coaches safe this fall we will be better able to bounce back next spring when, hopefully, conditions allow us to return to a new normal.

Spring Soccer was started by the late SYSA President Neil Callahan in 2002. The idea was to give children a chance to play soccer in the off-season and improve their skills by getting more touches on the ball. Spring Soccer is organized directly by SYSA. Spring Soccer is not about winning or losing, standings or scores. Please take Neil's vision for Spring Soccer to heart and just let the kids play and enjoy the game in a fun, safe, creative way.
For information about individual and/or team registration, please see the SYSA Spring Soccer site.
